Dhaka, Bangladesh - Michelle Bachelet will visit Bangladesh for the first time as the UN's rights director, visiting refugee camps where nearly a million Rohingya live.
The travel from Sunday to Wednesday came at the invitation of the Dhaka government, Bachelet's office stated on Friday.
Before her four-year term as the UN's high commissioner for human rights ends at the end of the month, it will be one of her last official acts in that capacity.
The UN rights chief will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other ministers while she is in Dhaka.
The high commissioner will also visit Cox's Bazar, where she will meet with refugees, government representatives, and non-governmental organizations while seeing camps housing Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, according to a statement from her office.
The visit is in advance of this month's fifth anniversary of the exodus of Rohingya people into Bangladesh.
Nearly a million Rohingya refugees who escaped a military onslaught in Myanmar are housed in the camps.
Following the crackdown, which the UN is looking into over allegations of genocide, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled Rakhine State in August 2017.
While criticizing the rest of the world for not helping more, Bangladeshi officials have become impatient with hosting the refugees.
The 920,000 predominantly Muslim Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are forbidden from leaving the barbed-wired camps.
