The number of people injured from various disaster incidents across the country from April 14, 2021, to June 19, 2022, is also high, while exact data on physical property losses are not yet available.
This information was shared during a meeting with journalists organized by the Disaster Preparedness Network- Nepal (DPNet-Nepal) on the 'Role of Communication in Early Warning System.
Prof Dr. Jeevraj Pokharel, the former vice-chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), emphasized the importance of adopting indigenous technology for disaster risk reduction, as natural disaster incidents have been increasing in recent years.
According to him, it will be challenging to reduce disaster risk until adequate disaster knowledge is disseminated to people, effective monitoring and communication systems are put in place, and community capacity is built.
