KATHMANDU, Nepal - On Tuesday, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Forest and Environment (MOFE) signed an agreement in Nepal for the Technical Cooperation Project on Climate Change Adaptation through Sustainable Forest Management.
The five-year project aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of government agencies responsible for speeding up climate change adaptation at the national and local levels through sustainable forest management. The project aims to improve the Ministry of Forest and Environment (MOFE) capacity to implement climate change adaptation policies and priorities at the federal level.
The project would have two significant outcomes-the policy implementations for climate change adaptation through sustainable forest management and the demonstration of neighborhood forest-based adaptation actions.
Although JICA has been assisting Nepal's forestry sector since the 1990s through forestry extension, community development, forest and watershed management conservation, and local governance programs, this is the first project to be implemented directly under resilient climate strategies.
