THAKURGAON, Bangladesh - A nilgai, an endangered animal of the Indian subcontinent, was slain in a village in Thakurgaon's Ranisankail Upazila.
According to Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kasim, the incident occurred Thursday in Uttar Mondalpara village under Dharmagar union.
Citing locals, Kasim stated that villagers rescued the animal. They slaughtered it because it was sick.
A video of the incident, which shows some Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in uniform at the scene, has gone viral on social media.
The Forest Department spokesperson stated that the villagers were wrong to slaughter the animal and that they would take appropriate action.
Nilgai is the Urdu word for "blue cow," which describes the blue-gray color of adult bulls.
