KATHMANDU, Nepal - A motion to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has been filed.
According to an MP from the Nepali Congress and its coalition allies, the impeachment motion against CJ Rana was filed at the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Sunday.
Nearly 100 legislators have signed the proposal.
Several concerned units have made multiple calls to impeach CJ Rana for, among other things, breaking the code of conduct, failing to establish a judicial environment at the Supreme Court, and losing moral grounds.
For almost 100 days, the Nepal BAR Association has been protesting against Rana.
the Nepalese Constitution states, "After the commencement of impeachment proceedings under clause (2), the Chief Justice of Nepal or Judge of the Supreme Court, member of the Judicial Council, chief or official of the Constitutional Body shall not be allowed to discharge the duties of his or her office pending the settlement of such proceedings."
