PALO, Leyte, Feb.13 (PIA)-The highest official of the Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (EVCHD) on Thursday assured the people of Region 8 that there is no cause for panic as no local transmission yet was reported in the region for Coronavirus Disease 2019 now known as COVID-19.
The assurance was made by DOH-EVCHD Regional Director Minerva P. Molon during the Suruswerte ha PIA radio program, an advocacy program of the Philippine Information Agency Eastern Visayas hosted by PIA Regional Head Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu.
"No cause for panic or fear for coronavirus now known as COVID-19 since no positive case yet in the region."
"We are still the healthiest region," Molon said.
To date, there is one remaining PUI presently confined at the DOH referral hospital in Tacloban while 15 PUIs were already discharged from the hospital after the laboratory results turned negative for the virus and exceeded the 14-days observation period.
Said PUI is the 16th patient reported in the region and was admitted at the isolation room of the hospital on February 11, 2020 after she complained of mild sore throat, cough and colds.
The new PUI is a 25-year-old Filipina from Samar province who works in Jiangsu, China and arrived in the Philippines on January 30, 2020. Samples were already collected from the 16th PUI and sent to the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) Manila. (nbq/cba/PIA8)
