Chidambaram's time wasted over allegations: Priyanka

Pakistan Telegraph (IANS) Sunday 5th February, 2012

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Sunday hit out at the opposition for levelling allegations against Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum allocation and said she felt sad he had to 'waste' his time responding to them when he had onerous responsibilities towards the country.

Backing Chidambaram, who was finance minister when 2G allocations were made in 2008, Priyanka said she felt sad for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government also which has been under constant attack from the opposition.

'It takes away from the precious time he (Chidambaram) should be devoting towards the country and I feel the same way towards our government,' Priyanka said in response to questions from media persons.

'I feel really sad how much time is wasted not allowing the government to function,' she added.

A court in Delhi had Saturday dismissed a plea by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy to make Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G scam case.

Priyanka, who is campaigning for Congress candidates in Amethi and Rae Bareli for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, said Chidambaram as home minister had onerous responsibilities towards the people of the country.

She said she felt 'sad that he (Chidambaram) has to waste his time' responding to people who were not concerned with the issues he had to deal with.
